Obituary for Richard "Dick" Williams

Richard "Dick" Williams
Richard Douglas “Dick” Williams, age 77, of Brookville, PA, formerly of Oil City, PA, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017, while surrounded by his family and loved ones. Dick was born on December 19, 1939, in Punxsutawney, PA. He attended the Brookville School District and graduated with the class of 1958. After graduation, he attended Lumber School in Tennessee. Dick spent his entire career as a lumber inspector working at different lumber mills, and retiring at the age of 63. Dick loved to golf, and after retiring from inspecting lumber, he picked up a part time job at a golf course, and benefitted from the work-related perk of golfing for free; Dick was a scratch golfer who loved walking the course while he played. On July 2, 1960, Dick married Carol Jean (Daugherty) Williams, in Brookville, PA.; Carol preceded him in passing. He was a simple man who loved his family and created special bonds with them, especially his daughter Debbie. Dick also loved watching and supporting all the Pittsburgh Sports teams and he was a huge Robert De Niro fan; when he was younger, he liked to imitate Marlin Brando’s look. For the past few years, Dick found friendship and companionship with his special friend Barb Mackins of Brookville, PA. During this courageous battle with cancer that Dick has been enduring, Barb has been there helping to keep him comfortable. One of his favorite daily activities was eating out with Barb and Dick’s family is very grateful for the care that she and her children Mindy (John) Morton, and Shane (Kelly) Mackins, have all given him, and for welcoming them into their family. Dick is survived by 1 daughter; Debbie (Greg) Smith; 3 grandchildren; Brandon Smith, Shannon Coon, Ashley (Dan) Flaherty; 2 great-grandchildren; his good friends Henry and Bob; and his 2 cats; Willy and Baby. In addition to his wife; Dick is preceded in death by his mother, Helen (Shaffer) Williams; his son, Doug Williams; and his grandparents, who played a large role in raising him, Ralph and Nellie Shaffer. At Dick’s request, a private viewing and service were held on Monday, November 6, 2017, at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825. Pastor Bill Saxman officiated. He was laid to rest at the Brandon Cemetery in Seneca, Venango County, PA. Online condolences and other information may be found at www.mckinneydargy.com
