Richard A. “Dick” Hiles, age 97, formerly of Reynoldsville, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois, PA. He was born on December 22, 1920 to the late Jacob Harper and Janet M. (Hamilton) Hiles in Bradys Bend, Armstrong Co., PA. On January 1, 1952, he married Jean L. (Mauk) Hiles, who preceded him in death on September 30, 1999. Dick worked at and retired from the Reynoldsville Casket Co., in Reynoldsville, PA. He was also a former employee at the Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home in Reynoldsville, PA. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, with the 479th Ordinance Evacuation Company, in the European Theater. He was extremely proud of his service to his country. Dick was a very active member in the First Baptist Church in Reynoldsville, PA. He served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Deacon for over fifty years. It was important that he studied his bible as much as possible. Most recently, he was an active member at the Soldier Community Church located in Soldier, PA. He enjoyed being outdoors and hunting. Dick also volunteered at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA, for over thirty years. He was a member of the American Legion in Reynoldsville, PA. Dick is survived by his numerous nieces and nephews who he treated like his own children. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers; Glenn, Jim, Tom, and Jack Hiles; and six sisters; Pearl Hiles, Helen Smith, Violet Morran, Aldine Barr, Edith Harriger, and his infant sister Rhoda. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, from 4pm – 8pm at the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home, 206 E Main St, Reynoldsville, PA 15851. A second visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, from 10 – 11am, also at the funeral home. A funeral service will take place immediately following the second visitation, beginning at 11:00am and officiated by Pastor Kevin Brooks. Full military honors will take place at the funeral home and rendered by the DuBois Area Honor Guard. Interment will take place at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Winslow Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.
