Obituary for Judith Helen Fricker

Judith Helen (Bloom) Fricker, age 74, of Sayer St., Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Saturday, January 19, 2019. She was born on April 18, 1944, to the late John Herbert and Ruth Olive (Work) Bloom, in St. Mary’s, PA. She graduated from Brookville High School with the class of 1962, where she was a Varsity Cheerleader from 1959 -1962; she was also a majorette during football season. Judy has an extensive work history which included the FAA in Washington D.C. from 1962-1966, Penn State University in State College from 1979-1980, the YMCA in Brookville, PA from 1982-1995, and the Brookville Borough office from 2002-2012. She also had formal education and training from the University of Virginia, East Stroudsburg, Penn State University and Clarion College. On November 6, 1965, she married John Wayne Fricker in Brookville, PA; John survives her. They started dating in 1961 and so they have been together for fifty-seven wonderful years. During this time period she supported and followed her husband wherever his jobs took them. While John was a Naval Officer, Judy had the opportunity to live in New Port RI, Long Beach CA, and San Diego CA; this was all during the Vietnam Conflict. While he was an Assistant Principal, she was able to live in Stroudsburg PA, and State College PA, before returning to Brookville in 1980. She was well known for teaching and being an avid Bridge player and like most grandmothers; she was cherished by her children and grandchildren; she never said a harsh word about anyone. She was also a past member of the United Methodist Church in Brookville, PA. In addition to her husband John, Judy is survived by three children, all of which she was very proud of; John W. Fricker Jr., who is a Podiatrist in Frankfort KY; Jenifer Knapp, who owns and operates Bloom on Main in Brookville, PA; and Jane Markle, who is a teacher at Hickory Grove Elementary School, and lives in Summerville, PA. She is also survived by two sisters; Shirley Taylor of Hancock, MD and Carol Bowley of Alexandria, VA; and nine grandchildren. Family and friends will be received for a time of gathering on Saturday, February 9, 2019, from 1 – 4pm at the G.B. Carrier House Inn, 365 Main St., Brookville PA, 15825. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, Main St., Brookville, PA. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Brookville YMCA.
