Connie Lynn Slay, age 82, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2018, as a patient of the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Connie was born on October 16, 1936, to the late Orville and Edith (Brownfield) Slay, in Brookville, PA. She graduated from the Brookville High School and went on to pursue her secondary education, earning her Master’s degree in Nursing. She retired as a Registered Nurse and throughout her career held positions with administrative duties, teaching duties and clinical duties, specializing in Cardiac Nursing. For many years she attended the Brookville First Baptist Church where she would teach the ladies class and periodically, she would play duets with her sister Ruby on the organ, and she on the piano. She was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau, an international honor society for nursing, the Audubon Club, Brookville Senior Citizens, and she enjoyed volunteering her time at the local nursing homes, specifically at Brookside and the McKinley Health Center. Connie enjoyed being outdoors doing many things including walking, cross country skiing, bird watching, and gardening. She was talented with music, enjoying the opportunities she had to play the piano. She also enjoyed photography, being with friends, animals, especially cats and dogs, and studying her Bible. Connie is survived by her dear sister, and close friend, Ruby Slay. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, from 4 – 8pm, at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825. I know you are sad and will miss Connie, yet glad she is with the Lord. I met Connie 45 years ago when we both were working at Delaware County Hospital. I didn’t know her well, since we worked in different departments. I did not know Jesus then, but remember well her unspoken testimony to me. I thought she was crazy when she volunteered to go after her shift was over, on Christmas Eve, to be a personal shopper for a doctor we worked with. He had to work until midnight Christmas Eve, his wife had leukemia, and he had not had an opportunity to get her a gift. Connie asked him all the right questions about size and color and budget, braved the crowds, and returned a few hours later with a lovely sweater for him to give Elsbeth. Only after I came to the Lord a few years later did I realize she was crazy for Jesus! When I mentioned the incident to her many years later, she barely remembered it. But what a testimony that was to me as God was trying to get my attention. I feel sure her daily walk must have influenced others along their way as well. ...Cathy Pensyl
