Dorothy Jean (Haines) Hughes, age 68, of Grampian, PA, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019, at her home surrounded by close family and friends. Dorothy was born on August 28, 1950, to the late Beryl and Lillian (Klingensmith) Haines in DuBois, PA. She married David B. Hughes of Clearfield, PA, on July 28, 1979 at the Reynoldsville Presbyterian Church in Reynoldsville, PA. He survives. Dorothy graduated from DuBois High School and then attended Thiel College obtaining a degree in sociology. Soon after, she began her teaching career at the DuBois Area School District. For most of her career, Dorothy taught first grade at the C.G. Johnson Elementary School in Reynoldsville, PA. She also worked for a few years at the Sykesville Elementary School. She maintained an active membership with Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for women educators. Dorothy retired after thirty-seven years of teaching in 2008. She loved to spend time at home. Dorothy especially enjoyed time with her family and her dogs. She liked being outside working with her flowers in the garden and in her yard. Her special hobbies were sewing and quilting. She was a member of the Curwensville Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by two children; Mark Hughes of Grampian, PA; and Anne (Cory) Smith of Rockton, PA; and one sister; Linda (Haines) Bridwell of Arkansas. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother; William B. Haines. Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 25, 2019, from 11am to 12pm, at the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home, 206 E Main St, Reynoldsville, PA 15851. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will take place on Friday, January 25, 2019, also at the funeral home, immediately following the visitation beginning at 12:00pm and officiated by Reverend Steven Hendrickson.
