Obituary

Maddox James Hyde, age 14, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Ohio Street in Reynoldsville, PA, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. He was born on August 21, 2004 to Kenneth James Hyde and Kristen Nicole (Williams) Potter in Honolulu, Hawaii; both of his parents, and his loving step-father, Steve Potter, survive him. Maddox attended elementary school at West End in Punxsutawney, PA. He also attended one year at Punxsutawney Middle School. Most recently he was an eighth-grade student at the DuBois Area Middle School in DuBois, PA. Maddox was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop #72 in Reynoldsville, PA. He participated with Extra Life Gamer, which is a charity that he used to raise money for UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Maddox raised over sixteen thousand dollars in just over a month; he finished in the top forty, worldwide, out of fifty thousand other participants. He was an avid Xbox gamer who spent much of his time playing Fortnite with his friends and family. Xbox Live made it possible for him to stay involved with his loved ones, even on days when it was difficult to leave his bed. When he could venture out, one of his favorite things was eating BBQ wings at Main Street Pizza in Reynoldsville, PA. Maddox enjoyed following and subscribing to many different people on YouTube, mostly involving video games. He always said he was famous and enjoyed being in the limelight. In every picture and in every moment, Maddox was always and continuously smiling. Those who came to know him through Facebook, television, or other ways, always commented on and will remember his contagious smile. Despite any hardship he has gone through, he was always positive and had a genuine love for life. He is a three-time cancer fighter, spending the last eight and one half years battling. Maddox also enjoyed the beach, especially Ocean City Maryland. Above all, Maddox loved his friends and family most. He always has, and always will, bring joy to their lives. The thousands of followers, supporters, and distant friends will miss seeing him and cheering him on. More than most, his story has impacted thousands of people worldwide, and those who took the time to follow him now have a better appreciation for what they have, and will honor the example he set. We all love you Maddox, thank you for sharing your most intimate moments so we could all learn and grow. In addition to his parents and stepdad, Maddox is survived by three siblings; Jayden Hyde (15) of Reynoldsville, PA; Grady Boal (5) of Reynoldsville, PA; and Aryssa Hyde (8) of New York; his maternal grandparents Ron and Dawn Williams; his paternal grandparents; Scott and Val Hyde; his maternal great-grandmother; Linda Kaizer; his paternal great-grandmothers; Mary Hyde and Ginger Royer; two aunts; Kelly (Jason) Holloway, and Erin (Jesse) Brewer; one uncle; Jeremy Hyde; as well as numerous cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents; Bob and Judy Neal. Maddox did not care for a traditional funeral home feel and instead wanted to have a lite and bright feeling. In keeping with his wants and feelings, family and friends will be received on Friday, February 1, 2019, from 2 – 8pm, at the Chateau d’Argy, 345 Main St, Brookville, PA 15825. His 150,000 cards, footballs, and other offers of care and comfort he received will be on display for all to see. The entire community is invited and welcome to come and say goodbye to this sweet boy. A funeral service will be held privately at the family’s convenience, and officiated by Pastor Sam Bundy. Interment will take place at the McClure Cemetery in Big Run, Jefferson Co., PA. Memorial contributions may be made in Maddox’s name to the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home, 206 E Main St, Reynoldsville, PA 15851. Online condolences and other information may be found at www.snyderdargy.com

In 14 years, this young man accomplished more, touched more people, lived more life, than some people who live to a very old age ever do. His family, his friends, the gaming community----all lucky to have him if even for far too short a time. To Maddox's family: You will meet him again.
