Monna Irene Wilson, 79, of Brookville, PA passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2019 as a result of a vehicle accident while on vacation in North Carolina. Born on October 29, 1939 in New Bethlehem, PA, she was the daughter of Leonard Snyder and Jeannette Irene Burkett Atwell. Monna was the wife of John A. Wilson, who preceded her in death in 2013.

Monna retired in 2001 as a proud 30+ year employee of Owens-Illinois in the parts department and shipping and receiving, and was active in the local 247 Glass Molders Pottery Plastics & Allied workers union at OI. Monna was an extremely active and young-spirited woman who was loved by many friends and family. She was an avid outdoorswoman, enjoying hunting turkey, fishing, and birdwatching. Her appreciation of nature was unmatched, and her adventurous exploring always led her out to the woods. Monna loved cooking for her family—using vegetables from her garden, canning absolutely anything in season, and always sending her grandkids home with fresh sugary peaches that she spent hours preparing. She was a resilient woman, taking on any challenge that faced her with full steam, and always making time to care for everyone in her life who needed help. Her free time was filled with traveling across the country and up and down Pennsylvania with her sisters and her close friends. She especially enjoyed hanging out with the elk in Benezette – always taking her kids and grandkids on adventures to teach them about the outdoors. She loved camping and visiting the white sandy beaches of Panama City Beach, FL, and national parks all across the US—her favorite was Bryce Canyon. When she wasn’t on the move, you could find her buying and selling antiques or working around the house.

She is survived by her children Kim D. Skalicky (Jake) Means of Brookville, David L. “Leroy” (Betty) Rhines of Brookville, Patricia H. Rhines (Isao) Nojima of Los Altos, CA; and Shelly R. Skalicky (Danny) Long of Chapel Hill, NC; her grandchildren Will A. Skalicky and Katelyn C. Means, her great-grandchildren River S. and Lydia R. Skalicky, and her two sisters, Jeannie Simmons and Lana “Lanny” Snyder, both of Westfield, PA. She is also survived by her step children, Wayne (Rhonda) Wilson of Corsica, PA; William Allen Wilson of Orange Park, FL; and Christene Bland of Middleburg, FL; as well as numerous step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband John, her son Terry Skalicky, and her granddaughter Megan Skalicky.

At her request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment will take place at Riggs Cemetery in Richardsville, PA.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825.

Our branch of the family just learned of Monna's death. As the oldest of three daughters of the other Leonard (P) Snyder, I extend my condolences and prayers to all of you. I remember how everyone there in Brookville used to like Chambersburg Peaches. We all still live in the Chambersburg Area. I will have to see if there any peaches left in the area and toast your family with one! Love to all as you continue to learn to live with Monna's Legacy! Susan Snyder

Loved talking to Monna. She always had time to talk and had a smile. Last we talked was at her place and an hour past before I left. We talked about everything and anything. She worked with my mother-in-law and my husband at O-I. Will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
